Having your cat spayed or neutered has many benefits for your pet and for the pet population. Spaying and neutering help to control the number of pets without a home that end up in shelters. There are also health and behavioural benefits too.

What is spaying or neutering?

Spaying is the surgical removal of the female reproductive organs (uterus and ovaries) and neutering is the surgical removal of the testicles.

When should I neuter/spay my cat?

We spay and neuter cats at six months of age.

What is the procedure to spay/neuter a cat?

When a cat comes in to be spayed or neutered, we do pre-anesthetic blood work. This test helps in determining any unseen kidney/liver issues, before putting them under general anesthetic. Once an anesthetic is administered, an assistant will monitor your cat’s heart and respiration rate, while the veterinarian surgically removes the reproductive organs. Once the procedure is complete, the patient will continue to monitor as they wake up from the anesthetic.
