Our dogs are our lifelong companions and with time, health conditions may arise that may affect their quality of life. Here at Sunrise Animal Hospital, we are proud to offer you the option of humane euthanasia. Our veterinarians and support are dedicated to helping you and your family during this difficult time.
What is pet euthanasia and how do I know when its the right time?
Euthanasia the act of humanely ending your dog’s life. It is hard to say exactly when the right time is, however, you know your dog best. When you notice your dog’s quality of life has suffered to the point that he/she no longer enjoys doing the things that make them happy, we recommend calling us to have a conversation about of end of life care.
Can I say goodbye to my pet in the comfort of our home?
Compassion At Home is a local company that provides home euthanasias. Please contact us for more information.
What is the process of euthanasia?
Once you have made the decision, we recommend you make an appointment. When you arrive, the staff will be waiting with a private room for you. We will ask you about your options for keepsakes and care of the body. The staff will then document your wishes and have you sign the consent form. Once the paperwork is completed, we will have staff take your dog to treatment and give a sedative. We will return dog cat to you, so they may fall asleep with you. When your dog is sedated, we will take your dog to our treatment area and insert a catheter. Your dog will then be returned to you and the veterinarian will come in to perform the procedure.

With recent changes to restrictions on businesses, we are pleased to advise that some restrictions on veterinary practices have been lifted. We are now allowing a limited number of clients in our clinic, however, we still encourage clients to stay in their cars where possible for annual exams, vaccines, wellness exams etc. Based on these changes, below are some important updates to our operating policies.
1. WE CAN NOW SEE ALL CASES BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
This includes vaccines, wellness exams, blood work, spays and neuters, dental services, and more!
2. SAFETY MEASURES TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE
Continue our "closed waiting room" policy to protect our clients and staff. When you arrive, please remain outside the hospital and use your cell phone to call us.
Please discuss with the doctor when called during your appointment time if you wish to come into the building. This may not always be possible as there will be a limited number of clients in the building at one time as proper disinfection of exam rooms will have to be completed between appointments.
If you are coming into the building, an assistant will come to get you and your pet and escort you to the exam room.
Clients are required to use disinfection stations upon entering the building
Masks are to be worn at all times while in the clinic and social distancing must be strictly adhered to in our exam rooms.
If you have been ill with fever, headache, shortness of breath, trouble breathing, flu like symptoms or have travelled in the last two weeks, we kindly ask that you not enter our facility.
Continue the use of credit cards as the preferred payment method.
