Cat Fecal Exam

Fecal examinations are not only limited to parasite screenings, they can also be used to test for certain deficiencies or help determine causes for chronic diarrhea etc.

What is a cat fecal parasite screen?

If your cat hunts or you are concerned they may have been exposed to parasites, we will recommend a fecal parasite screen to determine the presence of any parasites that are being shed in the stool. We would take a sample of your cat’s fecal matter and examine it under the microscope.

What does a fecal parasite screen reveal?

A fecal parasite screen will test for the presence of tapeworm, roundworm, hookworm, giardia and coccidia. Other less common parasites can also be detected.

What is the best method for collecting my cat’s stool?

With stool, we recommend the freshest sample possible. Stool over 12-hours-old can rarely give us any answers. We recommend placing the sample in a plastic baggie and bringing it in with you for the appointment or at a predetermined time as discussed with your cat’s veterinarian.

How much does a cat stool test cost?

To schedule your cat in for a stool test, we encourage you to contact us. We can discuss an appointment time and the price associated with a fecal examination.
