Veterinary Assistant

Since I was a little girl, I have been obsessed with animals. I can remember reading veterinary books as a child and always said when I grew up I would be a Vet. After volunteering and doing research, I realized the position of Veterinary Assistant was right for me. I have been in the field for eight years now and graduated the Veterinary Assistant program in 2010 working in clinics ever since.

I was initially hired at Sunrise before I even finished my program, doing my work term with them, and continued working there for six years before leaving to work at another clinic. I have recently started working at Sunrise again and could not be happier to be home. The first pet I had on my own is my pug mix named Brooklyn. She has been through everything with me. She will soon be turning 10. I love monitoring surgeries and observing surgical procedures. I also love talking to clients and building relationships with people and their pets!

I love being around animals, in general, every day. It is where I am meant to be. I have tried other jobs and have always come back to the veterinary field because it is what makes me happy. My favourite thing about Sunrise is that it feels like a family when you work there. Also, patient care is number one, which is important to me.

Fun fact: I am an artist and do pet portraits. I also make dog collars, bandanas, and accessories! I have six dogs, and six cats, so you can say I'm a little bit busy.

How to Keep Your Indoor Cat Healthy

On average indoor cats live longer than outdoor cats, but they don't have the same stimulation from their indoor environment as they would being an outdoor cat.
